XR系統之設計、創新與評估 (Design, Creation and Empirical Evaluation of XR Systems)
★課程概述與目標 (Course summary and target)
The course is an introductory short course in the design, creation and evaluation of XR systems (AR, VR, MR). Students who enroll in the course will participate in an intense 2 week session that consists of 36 lectures encompassing theory and practice in the design, creation and evaluation phases of XR research and development. Each day will entail a theoretical component where lectures on a topic such as tracking, display optics, cybersickness etc. will be provided, as well as a practical component where the students will be building a simple XR experiment simulation to evaluate an XR research question and evaluate it via a simple user study. The XR experiment simulation may involve designing and developing an system to evaluate a perceptual, cognitive or spatial research question, and design, run and report a user study evaluating the XR research question using the simulation. More details regarding the practical component will be released in class. By the end of the semester, students should have a clear understanding of the cutting-edge theoretical issues in XR systems design and development, learn user study design for XR system evaluation, and have hands on experience in conducting and reporting an empirical evaluation of their XR systems with the span of the short course.

★選課須知 (Notice of Course Registration)
Regulations for assessment of Short Courses are the same as for the regular courses. Registered students have to pass class homework, test, discussion, lab, practice or achievement publishing, by following the notification and receiving the approval by the class teacher.
Student in this short course will receive 0.5 credit for every 9 hours completed; no credit will be given for a study period less than 9 hours.
Students in class have to conduct Credential Login Application at Year 4, semester 1 to record the credits, as required of by NCTU. Whether the credit obtained from the course is applicable to graduation requirement is dependent on the decision of the student’s department.
This course is first available to the undergraduate student within the offering department until the total number of allowed registered students in this course is full. If the number is not full, the course is also open to the master degree and PhD students but no credit can be counted for the graduate students.
After registration and if the total registered student number exceeds the approved one, there will be a random draw to select students who have signed up; it is not by first come first served basis.
